publisher's philosophy

Aldus Books was founded in 2007 using a new business model for the book publishing industry.

  • We publish only one book at a time.
  • We publish only books that we believe have the attributes to make them bestsellers.
  • When we find such a book, we bring our talented publishing team – editorial, design, production, and marketing -- together to work exclusively on that one book from beginning (the manuscript) to end (release to the bookstores and online booksellers).

This unique business model allows us to focus exclusively on one book, concentrating all our efforts on making that book the bestseller we believe it can become.

The kinds of books we publish must have two basic characteristics:

  • They are serious non-fiction on important, controversial, and timely subjects of interest to a broad reading audience.
  • They are written in a style that is not for the academic scholar, but rather for the intelligent reading public.

Bondage of the Mind is a good example of the kind of book we publish:

  • It is serious non-fiction on an important, controversial subject that could not be more timely, given how the question of religious faith has become an increasingly prominent feature on the American political landscape. Indeed, it has become a major element in the current presidential campaign.
  • It tackles this exceedingly timely topic with analytical rigor, but with a clarity of expression that renders even complex arguments readily understandable to the reading public. Best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza says this in his praise for the book (read full quote): "The author has done his research and conveys his message with authority, and yet in a very readable way. The book has a colloquial tone that strengthens its appeal."

Bondage of the Mind also showcases the kind of worldwide talent we bring to bear on the books we publish. For example, the arresting image on the cover was created and painted by the noted Argentine illustrator, Dolores Avendaño, who did the covers for the Spanish-language editions of the Harry Potter series. We asked Dolores to come up with something that would immediately convey the idea of a mind in bondage. You can't get any more creative than the concept of a rusty chain brain that Dolores produced and executed so well.
