Rules for The High School Essay Contest

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The following rules apply to the contest for high school students. The contest will have five regional winners and, selected from the five regional winners, one Grand Prize Winner (see below).

High School Students: To enter the Essay Contest for High School Students, please complete the entry form - download here, and mail it with your essay submission to:

Essays for the contest must be between 1500 and 2000 words.

Participation

One entry per person.
To participate in the Essay Contest, your entry must be received or postmarked between April 1 and November 30, 2008. Incomplete entries will be disqualified, and Aldus Books, Inc., in its sole judgment, makes the determination on which entries are complete and which entries are incomplete. Aldus Books, Inc. is not responsible for lost, misdirected, or delayed entries. Aldus Books, Inc. will not acknowledge receipt of entries.

Why email submissions will not be accepted.

We are not accepting online essay submissions, although many contestants would probably prefer to submit their essays via the Internet. At a time when sensitive, private information is often associated with one’s email address, we believe that the best way to protect your privacy is to not ask you to divulge your email addresses. We need your mailing address, of course, in order to determine in which region you will participate and also so that we can notify the winners. But to protect all our contestants’ privacy, we prefer to work the old way – with snail mail addresses.

Note:We originally planned an essay contest for college students, too. However, in accordance with Rule 12 of the Essay Contest Rules, we cancelled the College Essay Contest on September 5, 2008 because no entries for this contest had been received by that date.
